SELF-PORTRAIT
At age 40, the artist began to work in self-portraiture, using a $100 point & shoot digital camera set on a 10-second timer. One may understand this 4-year endeavor as the origin of the question she would ask for years, Where is the sacred in me? And as preparation for her video work. This work was made secretly, undertaken breathlessly, compulsively, in vacant houses, boats, public bathrooms and various art studios, in 7 hour sessions, distributed one morning on telephone poles and ripped down the next. 3,000 images, equally sacred and profane, each asking, What am I but in relation to you?
